Jackalope's new/updated set thread

Postby Jackalope » Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:07 pm

I figure it's a good idea for me to put all the new sets and set updates I make in one thread... So here we are. Still dawdling on my third set, I fixed a couple songs in the Sonic 3D Blast set, and also one in my Marsupilami set.

I probably will not be taking requests, as I only want to do games whose music I adore, and also I can't hack, so even if I wanted to do some sets, I probably couldn't.

Changes slapped into the database. And there was much rejoicing.

While I'm taking my time on that set, I did a couple Taz in Escape From Mars rips. I could do the whole thing if I had some sort of sound test hack... Taz-Mania, too.

The Mole World theme would be amazing. I'd rip it myself if there weren't scripted sounds in the track's intro that ruins it. The beginning of the track doesn't loop.. so no way to get it that way either.

To my knowledge, there's no sound test cheat for the game or a debug mode that might make it accessible. Just how would one 'hack' the sound test though?

EDIT: Just thought of something.. the intro to the track lacks drums. Perhaps if I mute the DAC channel... I can duplicate the intro.

EDIT 2: Curse those Americans for using the YM2612 only. :[

A worthy bump; I finally finished that third set (World of Illusion Beta), and also added the missing Ristar tracks.

Woo! Nice to see this place alive and hopping.

This is something of a double-post, but I have a new set and it's been long enough. This is my first time building a set the new way, so critique is very much appreciated.

Whoa ... I'm .. really .. impressed.
I didn't see that coming. Congratulations for making a 32x pack with PWM sound!

It sounds good so far. There are some clicks when starting the songs, but I think that's something I need to take care of. The same goes for optimization.

The DAC (not PWM) sounds a little distorted, but I think that's either the sound engine (which wouldn't surprise me) or only scanline-accurate emulation of Gens/GS (which should get fixed with one of the still-planned optvgm-tools).

One question through: Did you notice any missing sounds compared to Fusion? I noticed some when ripping Knuckles' Chaotix.

Yes, I did! I thought it was just my imagination, but some of the background beats seemed to disappear.

The missing sounds are a problem of Gens/GS (and it's even worse in MESS).
I'm still waiting for a better open source 32x emulator. That's also a reason why I didn't yet bother about working on tools for 32x vgms.
