RYMCast has been developed to aim at maximum reproduction accuracy and has reached a point where it is absolutely indistinguishable from real hardware.

This should be added on the main page, possibly at the top of the VGM Player list. It runs on Win, Linux and Mac and there's a work in progress for a web based one (which might be cool to have in the website).

Totally agree, though is a shame that doesn't have proper loops option (Number of loops, fade length...)

Is there much difference left between RYMCast and in_vgm/VGMPlay with NukedOPN2 core?

RYMCast is indistinguishable from a proper, real Mega Drive 1 with a discrete Yamaha 2612.

The others ignore the entire analog output stage and I’m not even sure they properly emulate the ladder effect.

Anyway, if you want, go give it a go and see (hear) it for yourself.

RYMCast sounds like real hardware. It's amazing! I made a small comparison...

1. Real Hardware
2. RYMCast
3. in_vgm

etc..

The NukedOPN2 core, which got added in one of the last versions, emulates the ladder effect + the analog filter for a Model 1 MegaDrive.
NukedOPN2 was written by looking at die shots of an actual YM2612/YM3438 chip and is as accurate as software can get.
Which is why I asked for a comparison between RYMCast and in_vgm with NukedOPN2 core.

in_vgm defaults to the Genesis Plus GX core due to a few VGMs (like Rocket Knights Adventure) that break with NukedOPN2.

I’ll give it a shot when I have time, I’m curious.

I know for a fact that RYMCast is 100% accurate because it was tailored to how a Mega Drive 1 sounded and it’s, matter of fact, undistinguishable from the real thing, although I’m not sure if it has taken the same approach as the new NukedOPN2 core.
