So here the recordings are :

No Dark Studio though, I may have to record it from the game itself, but this means I'm not using the VGM player.

Thanks TmEE!
Torchlight is one of my favourites from Landstalker. I tried to play it on piano a few days ago but didn't get very far....tricky harmonies.
I suppose that this is a more accurate playback than the in_vgm.dll plugin. The in_vgm.dll seem to give the music a boost in volume and more treble so it sounds brighter and sharper... and maybe there's some compression.
It sounds like there's some level of hiss, on Landstalker at least (?). Landstalker was lower mixed than Golden Axe II, but that originates from the VGZ files I guess. I don't know anything about how VGZ files are created.

That hiss is because of how YM2612 works. On MD1, this hiss would be much louder. No way around it. All quiet tunes will have some level of this hiss in it.
Reason why the Landstalker and Forgotten Worlds were more quiet is because these tunes are quiet.
And for brightness, if I had used 48KHz, it would have helped quite a bit... real YM2612 rate is 53KHz actually.
