My songs in vgm format

Post by nineko »

I decided to create a topic to show off my songs in vgm format, since the only place where I posted them is a private section of the Sonic Retro forum, but I want to share them with the world :)

This topic will contain my most recent conversions which aren't included in the vgm pack for my Sonic hack (check it out for more songs). Please note that the tagging isn't consistent at all, some of them don't even loop. I might look into polishing them if they're appreciated.

Sonic Advance 2 - Ice Paradise
Knight Rider opening theme
Queen of Heart - Yuki
Super Mario Land - Credits (co-op with Pedro Saraiva)
Sonic Advance 2 - Egg Utopia
Sonic 2 - Robotnik (remixed by someone I forgot, I'll add credit later)
Sonic & Knuckles Collection - Launch Base Zone 2
Sonic & Knuckles Collection - Carnival Night Zone 2
Star Soldier - Power Up
Europe - The Final Countdown
Spice Girls - Wannabe
The Beatles - Let It Be (incomplete)

Comment & Criticize, please. I love feedback :)

I've always liked the music from Sonic & Knuckles Collection, so like your versions. The only real problem with the other songs are the drums, try not to use the 626 snare too much.

Those are the regular drums used in Sonic 1, as those songs are replayed through the Sonic 1 sound system.

And thanks :)

Like I said before, that Banjo Kazooie one is especially impressive. You really captured the N64 sampled sound.

Nice work, I liked the sonic advance tunes and the one titled "Yuki". The hihat is too loud in most of them though, and the sonic 1 drums too low.

Try mixing psg with fm for the leads, or using 2 fm channels for leads to create fuller instruments with echo.

I did a few more songs. I think these three are quite good.

Mecha Green Hill medley with Theme of Zero (original midi by King Meteor)
Super Bonk - Water Level
Plok!

apart from the drums, the instrumentation is pretty bad. Very tinny and sharp sounding guitars, and weird beeps in the bonk tune.
