Shiru's VGM Music Maker (.vgm tracker for windows)
i came here looking for some .vgm files, and thought i'd see if anyone had posted this yet. Shiru (author of TFM Music Maker, a tracker for the YM2612 chip) just released his new project VGM Music Maker yesterday. It's a tracker that finally supports both YM2612 and PSG soundchips, and samples (in the 6th YM channel).
you can grab it, and TFM if you like, here http://shiru.untergrund.net/software.shtml along with some other utilities of his.
you can even use ripped instruments from genesis roms, using Gens KMod (http://gendev.spritesmind.net/page-gensK.html) by going to the CPU menu -> Debug -> Genesis -> Sound - YM2612. make sure not to dump a blank channel or the instrument'll be blank!
he seems to be most active as far as answering questions here: http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/4509/vgm-music-maker/
don't forget to check the help doc that comes with it! a lot of people have sound problems when they start off, so go to preferences, hit the little speaker icon, and mess with the buffers count and size settings until you get a clear tone.
have fun guys!

EDIT I appear to have totally missed the context of Monkeymook's post yay me
There's a new version that fixes a lot of bugs over here.

The release and its discussion is not exclusive to chipmusic or any other place. I'm just lazy to run a dedicated forum for my projects.
Besides of the chipmusic thread, you can find discussions at SpritesMind, 8bc, and smspower. However, if you expect a reply on your report/question, it will be faster to mail me.

That won't be possible.projectstar wrote:Hopefully... Add the original MD music format.
There is no "original MD music format" - every developer has another proprietary format. (and Sonic 1/2/3/Knuckles/3D already have 3 variations of the same format)
Most of them aren't documented or reverse-engineered.

Re: Shiru's VGM Music Maker (.vgm tracker for windows)
VGM format does not contain any information about module structure (no order list, patterns, instruments, effects, etc) - it is just dump of register writes. It is only possible to reconstruct something resembling readable notes, but it would be like vgm2mid or nsf2mid or similar convertors - not accurate at all, and has nothing common with the original module. I don't want to do this, for sure.

No Mod2PSG2-like vibrato/instrument editor is planned. There is 4xx effect for the vibrato, and LFO as well.
