I don't understand why so many gamers have such a strong distaste towards the Donkey Kong Country series. I mean, sure, the games aren't the greatest of all time, but they're still fun, and the graphics are really impressive for the hardware.

On an unrelated note, this thread has given me quite a few soundtracks to check out. :D

The gameplay is pure meat and potatoes, and it does little to nothing to keep itself interesting all the way through. It had some pretty poor collision detection along with that. Pre-rendered 3D graphics is not really an impressive feat from a technical point of view. It has nothing to do with pushing the actual hardware. Hell, it was done on the Master System with Sonic Blast.

QFT

I played it for the first time in '97 or so and it didn't impress me in the least. I got bored with it after three stages or so.

And the collision detection is indeed complete crap.

Still good music though. There's an NSF cover of Stickerbrush Symphony out there that's simply amazing.

My favorite soundtracks are Tenshinouta and Tenshinouta 2 - Datenshinosentaku for the Nec PC-Engine (Avoid the outrageous massacre Sakuraba commited on the SFC version). Maybe because of the cheer emotional flood that overcomes you when you remember about those 2 wonders though. But one has got to love it when Michiko Naruke goes wild on the accoustic guitar and luth ;)
I like Fuun Kabuki Den a lot (hell, I like Kohei Tanaka a lot), about anything done by Tomomi Otani or Hitoshi Sakimoto, and for a more atmospherous choice, the Ico, Konoyonohatedekoiwoutaushojo Yuno (FM only, please ;), Dune and Metroid soundtracks.

And Donkey Kong Country is as boring a platform game can get. That's 3 in a row ;)

Way too many favourite vgm music to list, in fact it is quite long that it would take a few hours to read it all but here are the ones that are quite regular listened. Note: Can't think of good ways to describe them.

Sega
Sonic the Hedgehog Series - Except Tails' Skypatrol and a few others...
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine - Catchy (only game to have Scratch and Grounder well.. Maybe not Grounder or Scratch)
Comix Zone - Given
Daytona USA - Not all of it but some of it.
Castle of Illusion
Hang On - The ye old motorbike game
Wonder Boy Series - Especially Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Trap
Alex Kidd in Miracle World - Just short and tuney for early software
(Obscure) Dynamite Dux - Wacky. DYK that this has Colonel Sanders in it. (Finger licking good).
(Obscure) Bonanza Bros - Don't know why?
OutRun (Original, Turbo, OutRunners and 2006) - Up beaty.
Sega Rally 1 & 2 - Again don't know why
Asterix Series (original, Secret Mission, Great Rescue) - A mix of hmm...
Gangster Town - Old. Gangstery.
Fantasy Zone - Just Opa Opa
Teddy Boy Blues - Seems 80s J Pop to me
Spy vs. Spy (Master System) - The main theme is so repetitive but catchy.
Psycho Fox - The game may not jump right but it is okay
Virtua Racing - ?
Ristar
Streets of Rage

Nintendo (hey sometimes you gotta mention your rival)
Mario Series - Given (except for the unreleased Super Mario RPG which came out in most countries except Europe. Grumbles for days for not having a good game with good music.)
Donkey Kong Country 1 to 3 and King of Swing
Wrecking Crew - Main theme
Star Fox 1 & 64 (that's Starwing and Lylat Wars to me) - Spacey.
Revenge of the Gator - Pinball game (obscure)
F-Zero X
Perfect Dark
Super Smash Bros.
Can't think of anymore...

Other companies
Marble Madness (Arcade and Master System) - 1st game to have stereo sound and it shows
Dynamite Headdy (MD) - Why here instead of Sega? Treasure.
Mega Man: The Wily Wars (MD but games came from NES) - Dr. Wily is so repetitive both himself and his themes.
TMNT (Arcade) - 80s are back
Simpsons (Arcade)
River City Ransom
Super/Mega/DS/Neo Bomberman - Not got to play the Saturn one
Some track called ncv20045 - Ripped by R. Belmont (That's all I know but sounds early 80s)
Super Turrican - Chris Huelbeck, Turricany (must stop puns)
Desert Strike - Rob Hubbard, natch
Super Off Road - Don't know
Earthworm Jim - (Earthworm Jim, he rockets through the sky. Despite his ? and his really big big gun, Jim is still an earthworm and he's the only one). Oops got the cartoon theme song here.
Some Japanese game that has a name changed but has catchy Casino-like music, Swiss music and a song called Danger Zone (SNES) - Think it was an RPG. Look up at SNES Music. Might be linked by Popeye who is a sailor and Sergeant Slaughter who is a soilder?
Asterix and Obelix (Super NES) - Very European. Ripped by the same person who made Beggar Prince.
Final Fight - Urbany
Pheonix Wright - May not like the game but only for Objection!

That's all I could think of maybe except Ferias Frustradas do Pica-Pau or any of Tweaker's remixes since a lot of games (played over 1000s, can't remember them all.) played once of donkeys.

On the contrary. Mean Bean Machine did have both Scratch and Grounder. You faced Grounder around Stage 6 and Scratch at 11 or 12, by the way.

Although you're wrong about it being the ONLY game... Sonic Spinball definitely had Scratch in it and there might be Grounder in it somewhere as well, but my mind fails to recall 100% accurately.
