i came here looking for some .vgm files, and thought i'd see if anyone had posted this yet. Shiru (author of TFM Music Maker, a tracker for the YM2612 chip) just released his new project VGM Music Maker yesterday. It's a tracker that finally supports both YM2612 and PSG soundchips, and samples (in the 6th YM channel).
you can grab it, and TFM if you like, here http://shiru.untergrund.net/software.shtml along with some other utilities of his.
you can even use ripped instruments from genesis roms, using Gens KMod (http://gendev.spritesmind.net/page-gensK.html) by going to the CPU menu -> Debug -> Genesis -> Sound - YM2612. make sure not to dump a blank channel or the instrument'll be blank!
he seems to be most active as far as answering questions here: http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/4509/vgm-music-maker/
don't forget to check the help doc that comes with it! a lot of people have sound problems when they start off, so go to preferences, hit the little speaker icon, and mess with the buffers count and size settings until you get a clear tone.
have fun guys!
